Banks in Switzerland

The Banks in Switzerland report was discontinued in June 2020.

This annual report described developments in Switzerland's banking sector. It contained data on balance sheets and income statements based on the individual financial statements of banks as required by law, as well as on the number of banks and staff. The underlying data were collected via surveys conducted by the SNB.

The data contained in the report and further information can still be consulted and downloaded on the SNB data portal at data.snb.ch.

List of banks in Switzerland between 2014 and 2020

The list of banks in Switzerland includes information on balance sheet total, year of formation, bank category and legal status. In addition, the foreign branches of all Swiss banks are covered in a separate list. The list of banks in Switzerland can be consulted in the Changes and revisions under 'Number of banks'. The chronological list also contains the overviews from earlier years.

Data and further information

  • Since its foundation, the Swiss National Bank has published banking statistical data. The publication known today as 'Banks in Switzerland' was initially published as a multi-year publication and then as a yearbook under the title 'Das schweizerische Bankwesen' (Swiss Banking).

This list comprises digital reproductions of the printed publications. The digital text, which has been captured using optical character recognition (OCR) software, contains errors; only the on-screen or printed image can be relied upon to provide a precise record of the content.

    Languages
'Das schweizerische Bankwesen' (Swiss Banking) was published only in German until 1972 (with the exception of 1920), in German and French from 1973, and additionally in English from 2005.
