Our apprenticeships

An apprenticeship at the SNB is more than just a training option; it is a solid launch pad into your professional life. Our apprentices assume responsibility at an early stage, receive individual support and work in an environment that combines collegiality, openness and professionalism.

Parallel to your in-house training, you will attend vocational school one or two days a week. You can complete your apprenticeship with or without a vocational baccalaureate.
In addition, in branch courses you will learn theory that you can then apply in practice.

SNB - Banking in a different dimension

Our apprenticeships

In Berne, your studies will be in the areas of services and administration, while in Zurich the focus is on banking. You will gain insight into various fields, work on issues relating to both internal and external clients, support projects and get to know the processes of a national institution.

In Berne, you will complete - among other things - a placement at Berner Kantonalbank; in Zurich, we work with a partner institution in the banking industry.

During your four-year apprenticeship, you will learn how to keep our employees' IT systems running smoothly. You will work in various teams charged with planning, installing and operating hardware and software. You will take over the configuration and installation of systems and program monitoring and automation tools.

In this three-year apprenticeship, you will become familiar with the complexities of managing an 'electronic workplace'. This includes gaining in-depth knowledge of hardware and software and understanding how these are managed and deployed.

As part of the IT service desk team, you will support internal customers with IT problems and advise them on questions and concerns. Handling modern tools and working directly with users will teach you how to solve technical problems quickly and reliably.

During your practical year in our versatile IT department, you will have a unique opportunity to connect with everyday business operations and apply your theoretical knowledge. We offer a practical year in various units within our IT division.

What awaits you

We offer a personal training programme that is tailored to the needs of the various apprenticeship professions. Experienced instructors will accompany you throughout your apprenticeship and support you in your development. In addition to in-depth specialist training, you will benefit from six weeks of holidays, modern workstations in a central location, the 'Culinarium' (our staff restaurant in Berne and Zurich), the SNB sports club, discounts via Reka, and an SBB GA Travelcard for Youth.

What we expect from you

We are looking for motivated, open-minded young people with strong interpersonal skills, team spirit and an interest in economic affairs. Applicants must have completed obligatory public schooling (Sekundarstufe A). Applicants who have completed the 10th school year or a language immersion year are also welcome.

Reliability and eagerness to learn are just as important to us as the willingness to work independently and to take responsibility.

We are happy to answer any questions you may have about vocational education and training personally.

The SNB explained

The SNB's work is omnipresent in our everyday lives - when we make a cash withdrawal, do the weekly shopping or buy a home. In a series of short accounts, 'The SNB explained' answers questions such as 'How does the SNB keep inflation on track?' and 'Will cash at some point become obsolete?', demonstrating the way the SNB works.

Work culture and values

We foster an open, dialogue-based culture built on trust and respect. We achieve our goals together - with commitment, initiative and team spirit.

Work environment

At the SNB, modern technology meets historical architecture: At central locations in Zurich and Berne, we offer a work environment with first-class facilities, flexible working models and attractive conditions. Since 2013, we have also had a branch office in Singapore, which strengthens our network in the Asian financial market.
