Emphase Ltd to design new banknote series

4 March 2026

Emphase Ltd has won the Swiss National Bank's design competition for the new banknote series. The company's submission, Concept J, achieved the best overall result in the multi-phase competition. It conveys the theme 'Switzerland and its altitudes' convincingly and is very suitable in terms of the banknote development process.

The SNB is commissioning Emphase Ltd with the graphic development of the new banknote series. The ultimate design may differ significantly from the concept submitted to the competition. The Bank Council is responsible for deciding on the design of the banknotes. The SNB expects the new banknotes to be issued at the beginning of the 2030s, at the earliest.

The SNB would like to thank all designers who participated in the competition. The 12 concepts submitted will be exhibited in the SNB Forum at Fraumünsterstrasse 8 in Zurich, from 5 to 15 March (daily from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm).

All 12 concepts and further information on the development of the new banknote series can be found on the SNB website.
