New Director at Study Center Gerzensee

As of 1 January 2027, Ulrich Bindseil will be taking over as the Director of the Study Center Gerzensee, a foundation of the Swiss National Bank. He succeeds Martin Brown, who has held the position for just under 5 years.

In Ulrich Bindseil, the Study Center is gaining a Director who is a renowned academic and proven central bank expert. After his doctoral studies at the University of Saarbrücken, he joined the European Central Bank, where he held a wide range of leadership and strategic roles in the areas of monetary policy, market infrastructure and payments. He is Honorary Professor at the Chair of Macroeconomics at Technische Universität Berlin and has written numerous publications on central banking, monetary policy, financial stability and innovation-related topics in the field of financial market infrastructures. The SNB’s Governing Board and the Study Center’s Foundation Council congratulate Ulrich Bindseil on his appointment.

Martin Brown will take over as Head of the Economic Affairs division at the SNB with effect from 1 October 2026. The SNB’s Governing Board and the Study Center’s Foundation Council would like to thank him for the excellent achievements of the Center under his leadership. Together with his team, Martin Brown has played a major role in building up the Study Center Gerzensee as a place of learning and a venue for academic research and dialogue, in preparing it to meet future challenges, and in further strengthening its national and international presence.
