Payment Methods Survey of Companies in Switzerland 2023

In 2023, the Swiss National Bank will again be conducting an online survey of companies operating in Switzerland on topics relating to payment methods, as it did in 2021. Around 2,000 companies across all language regions, industries and sizes will be surveyed.

The aim of the survey is to obtain representative information on companies' acceptance and use of payment methods, as well as their cash holdings and cash logistics. By repeating the survey it should also be possible to identify any changes over time.

Survey commissioned by Swiss National Bank

Under the National Bank Act, the Swiss National Bank is tasked with ensuring the supply and distribution of cash in Switzerland. Additionally, it is entrusted with facilitating and securing the operation of cashless payment systems. By performing this mandate, the SNB creates the necessary conditions for the public to be able to choose their preferred method of payment for each transaction. In-depth knowledge of how payment methods are used helps the SNB to fulfil these tasks.
