Swiss Balance of Payments (quarterly estimates)
The quarterly and annual reports on the balance of payments provide commentaries on Switzerland's trading and financial transactions abroad. The balance of payments consists of the current account, the capital transfers account and the financial account. The current account covers the exchange of goods and services, investment income and labour income from abroad as well as that transferred abroad, plus current transfers. Capital transfers cover the provision of free capital and the trade in patents. The financial account shows financial transactions with other countries, which include direct investment, portfolio investment, other investments (loans) and reserve assets.
The quarterly reports on the balance of payments are posted on the SNB website three months after the end of each quarter. The quarterly data are provisional and are revised as necessary in the following quarter, based on new information. The annual report on the balance of payments is posted on the website in mid-September.
Current account data are available in the online version of the Monthly Statistical Bulletin on an annual basis from 1947 and on a quarterly basis from 1985. Financial account data are available in the online version of the Monthly Statistical Bulletin on an annual basis from 1985 and on a quarterly basis from 1999.
