Costs
The good quality of the Swiss banknotes has its price. The cost of producing a banknote (conception and design, paper, printing, information) average approximately 30 centimes per new note. Assuming that the average life span of a banknote is three years, the annual production cost comes to 10 centimes per note in circulation.
Annual processing costs incurred by the SNB amount to about 20 centimes per note in circulation. Adding together the annual production and processing cost per banknote, we obtain an annual overall cost of roughly 30 centimes per note in circulation.
