| The World Bank was set up together with the International Monetary Fund in Bretton Woods (USA) in 1944 and is today the world's largest development bank. Its aim is to promote the development of poorer countries through financial assistance and to raise living standards in these countries. Switzerland has been a member of the World Bank since 1992.
